Boom.

He liked to watch them scatter. Like cockroaches, scampering away from the feast when that large foot slams down. ‘Run, run, save yourself!’ he could practically hear them say, somewhere there amidst the screams and panic.

Then came him, the vulture, swooping down to pick off of what was left behind. Rice, a half-eaten bowl of corn soup, and an egg roll.

Some days were better than others.

He opted to scope out the tables closer to the door, in case this restaurant happened to be one of the kinds that had the owner living right over it. He didn’t bother to stick around long enough to find out, because those meetings never turned out very enjoyable, and he had better things to do than get a beating.

One down, about five more to go, and that was only counting the shops on this block.

Life was good.
